Been There, Won That

Attending the NFHR 25th Anniversary Celebration

When it comes to conversation, I’m no Mr. Ed, but some experiences are so extraordinary that even a laconic Norwegian can’t help but gush.

Case in point: The Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, which took place in Winona, MN on October 11-15, 2006. It was an incredible gathering of over one hundred Fjord horses, and the first-ever Fjord horse show sponsored by the NFHR.

Evaluations, demonstrations and seminars took place. There were displays and parades, auctions and banquets. And a magnificent Evening of Dancing Fjord Horses captured everyone’s imagination.

The way those horses moved generated lots of oohs and ahhs – almost as many as I got just standing there on Stallion Row.

The fact is, I was a star. Not only did I place well across the board – Single Driving Reserve Champion was just one of my awards – but I also got propositioned innumerable times. That’s nothing new, of course. It’s just nice to be reminded that I still got it.

I must say: Mykleblakka and FC Gwendolyn still have it, too. They came in first and second, respectively, in Produce of Dam. That Mykleblakka is something else. Some horses look great from a certain angle, but not so great from another. She’s every inch – and from every angle – a true champion.

Oh, I almost forgot: Young Silver Flyer and Snow Flyer, who accompanied their mother Gwendolyn in Produce of Dam, also deserve their share of accolades. They performed so well, you’d think they were my progeny.

Here's a complete rundown of how my offspring and I, our owners and stable mates did at Winona.
